Unique biomass / green electricity project

On behalf of Stramproy contracting De Jong Thermal Engineering is currently working on operationalising two unique projects in the area of conversion of biomass to bio-coal using the Torrefaction principle. Torrefaction is a thermal treatment of relatively low-grade clean wood / wood residue and other biomass streams. The objective of the process is the use of bio-coal in power stations for conversion of energy into green electricity. The role of De Jong Thermal Engineering is the environmentally responsible conversion of the process gas released into thermal energy (heat) by means of thermal oxidation. This heat is subsequently re-used in the torrefaction process. A unique concept has been developed for treatment of the process gas, which is now being trialled in practical conditions. The results of this are expected in the near future. The negative environmental impact will be substantially reduced by this method of power generation.
